The Parish Council meets a minimum of twelve times a year. From time to time, an extraordinary meeting may be called by the Chairperson or any two members of the parish council in accordance with the Standing Orders. Agendas are published a few days in advance and are available online to comply with the legal notice period. Residents are encouraged to attend the council meetings and will have an opportunity to speak in the public participation session.

Parish Council scheduled meetings take place on the third Monday of every month at 7.00pm in the Methodist Church

Drighlington Parish Council is represented by 12 elected councillors who are unpaid volunteers. The Parish Council carries out a range of duties as part of the local government service, to meet the needs of local residents and to promote community well-being.

The parish council is responsible for:

  • Representing the local community interests
  • Drighlington Play Area
  • Community Defibrillators
  • Speed Indication Devices [SID]
  • Community Grant Funding
  • Providing annual donations to local community groups
  • Local council projects
  • Alert relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken
  • Help the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities
  • Checking and providing assets in the parish such as benches, litter bins and planters
  • The Christmas lights, Christmas tree and the Santa Sleigh Event
  • Remembrance Day Event
