The Parish Council meets six times a year. From time to time an extraordinary meeting may be called by the Chairman or any two members of the parish council in accordance with the Standing Orders. Agendas are published a few days in advance and available online to comply with the legal notice period. Residents may attend the council meetings and will have an opportunity to speak in the public participation session.
Drighlington Parish Council is represented by 12 elected councillors who are unpaid volunteers. The Parish Council carries out a range of duties as part of the local government service, to meet the needs of local residents and to promote community well-being.
The parish council is responsible for:
- Representing the local community interests
- Commenting on local planning applications
- Drighlington Play Area
- Community Defibrillators
- Speed Indication Devices [SID]
- Community Grant Funding
- Financial Support to the Village Events Committee
- Local council projects
- Alert relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken
- Help the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities.
